Child Safe officer training is provided for clubs to assist them to understand the need to create a child safe environment and most importantly minimise the risk of harm to children from other people. The role of the Child Safe Officer (CSO) is to deliver advice and awareness within their organisation or club around developing a child safe environment. The goal for this 3 hour education session is to ensure the CSO:
- Appreciates the importance of club culture in supporting the safety of its members
- Understands the need for organisations to adopt appropriate screening processes for members working with children and young people.
- Is aware of the organisations Member Protection Policy (MPP), or a separate Child Protection Policy and develops and promotes the procedures to support this policy.
- Understands the indicators of child abuse and neglect and the responsibility for reporting.
- Is able to provide ongoing education to committee members.
